Have you ever heard of the trance state? It’s a form of meditation that many people find deep and rewarding. Have you ever wanted to experience what it feels like to enter a trance state? To be in a meditative, relaxed state of consciousness where the world around you fades away and your innermost thoughts can come forward? Well, look no further! Here are three tips to help you get started on your journey.

Tip #1: Get rid of distractions and relax. This is a key part of entering any kind of meditative state—you need to be relaxed and comfortable so that your mind can enter its trance-like state without any external distractions. Make sure you’re in a quiet place with no distractions, like your bedroom or somewhere else where you won’t be disturbed by outside noises. Also, make sure you have enough time—it could take up to an hour for some people to reach their goal. So, ditch that cell phone, turn off the TV, and put your laptop or tablet away.

Tip #2: Get comfortable. Finding a comfortable position is key to entering a trance state. You want your body to be relaxed so that your mind can follow suit. Lying down flat on your back is usually the most relaxing pose; however, if lying down isn’t comfortable for you, find another position that works best for you (sitting upright while closing your eyes is also an option).

Tip #3: Clear Your Mind. Before entering a trance state, it’s important to clear your mind of any intrusive thoughts or worries that may be lingering. Take some deep breaths and focus solely on the breath as it goes in and out of your body. Once your mind is clear, you can start to relax more fully into the trance state.

Tip #4: Focus on your breathing. Most forms of meditation involve focusing on breathing, and trance states are no different. Take slow, calming breaths and allow yourself to drift away from the physical world around you and into a deeper internal space. Don’t worry about how long it takes for this to happen—just stay focused on your breath and let it come naturally.

Tip #5: Visualize. Visualization is an incredibly powerful tool when attempting to enter a trance state. Close your eyes and imagine yourself in a peaceful place—it could be somewhere real or imagined—and use all your senses to explore this place as deeply as possible (what does it smell like? what does it sound like?). Allow yourself to become completely immersed in this space and allow yourself time to just “be” there without worrying about anything else from outside of this space intruding on it. Nothing else matters here, except the present moment. Now bask in this feeling until it becomes second nature, allowing you to reach new depths each time you practice this form of meditation.

Tip #6: Use Music. If you have trouble with visualization, music can also help aid in entering a trance state by giving you something else to focus on instead of any intrusive thoughts that may be creeping up on you while trying to relax into the trance state. Choose music that resonates with you; something soothing such as classical music or new age music often works well for this purpose. If you find music with lyrics distracting, then choose instrumental music. Let the music drift through your body and carry away any tension or stress with each note that passes through you until all that’s left is relaxation and peace within yourself. Just remember to be present and observe the music that’s playing, listen to the little nuances that you might have missed hearing the song again.

Entering a trance state doesn’t have to be difficult. By following these simple steps—getting rid of distractions, finding a comfortable position, clearing your mind, focusing on breathing, visualizing, using music—you can easily slip into a peaceful, meditative space within minutes!
